80KG!
That's how much our luggage weighed on the last day. We bought so many things we can set up a stall. We went there with half a luggage and we were back with 5 full luaggage. The biggest one was so heavy the taxi driver fell while trying to carry it up the boot. Hahaha! Can you imagine.. I think the thai government really love tourists like us. Before i carry on, i must warn you this is a super duper ultra long entry, i suggest you go clear your bowels, go toilet, grab a snack, coffee then come back. Actually i didnt buy a lot of things, really. It's my sis who tried to buy the whole bangkok down and maybe my memo lah. Every 3 stalls we go to, we buy something. But you must see how cheap the things are! Super duper cheap. Just take the long sleeves shirts i bought for example, in Singapore, one piece costs at least 30 dollars, even the offer pieces in Esprit cost like 29.90. But in bangkok hor, one piece cost only 8 bucks! And it's not those lousy toilet paper quality fyi, comparable to Raoul and G2000. This time in bangkok, it's not only shopping as you might think. I dont really like shopping, esp with my sister cause we had to keep waiting for her while she make her purchases. My sister's really good at bargaining i tell you, much better than those silly farangs. (farang means angmoh in thai) In bangkok, you have to bargain from half the price. So if the thing costs 500 baht, you have to bargain for 250 baht. Of course the stall owner will start to give those shocked face lah, then tt's where the haggling starts and you prolly get your item at around 350-400 baht. That's what i call bargaining! You know those funny farangs, they bargain for like what, 20 baht can. 20 freaking baht! Can you believe it, if you convert to sing $, they effectively bargain for a measely 70 cents. No wonder those thais like farangs so much... As i was saying, we didnt go there for the goods only. We went for the services too. Service like what leh? Service like Foot reflexology, hair salons, facial massage etc etc... Now, let me take you through the journey, are u ready! (the above is only introduction) Let's say goodbye to singapore, A ticket to indulgence The flight's only 2 hours, not too long, i like. And by the time we arrived there, it's night time. So we had dinner with my sis' friend who's working there. DINNER AT ROADSIDE SEAFOOD RESTURANT So what if it's roadside? And who cares if it's dirty? As long it serves good seafood, it's a good dining place. We ate mostly barbeque seafood. Cheap exotic seafood! Shiok arh! I'm not sure what's the first dish. Garden snails, maybe? The barbequed tiger prawns are the best, especially the eggy juice in the head. Oooooh. If you ever go to bangkok, dont always go to air-con restaurants! Be adventurous and try the roadside stalls too! You never know what's in store for you and i promise they serve very good food too. Most importantly, they're very cheap. After dinner, the shopping spree began at the night market Suan Lum. Suan lum opens until about 12am and sells very unique things. Quite a nice place to go at night, not too crowded as well. I was too lazy to dig my camera out of my bag so there's not suan lum photos. But but but! I got Chatuchak Weekened market photos! Very famous place already. I mean which tourist dont go there? They practically sell everything.. And they sell dogs too! The dogs are really cheap ok. 500 baht for one, which is equivalent to 20 bucks! Can you believe it! 20 bucks for a puppy. Pepsi cost 800 dollars. See the difference.. But i subtracted 1.5 stars cause, it's very hot, humid and stuffy, making it not a conducive place to walk. Oh, i like to eat the ice lollies or popsicle. Similar to my 0 calorie ice-cream, but smaller. They have rose syrup flavour, coke flavour..blah blah.. only 20 cents! Must try ok when you go there. Later in the afternoon, we went back to hotel to deposit everything. The shopping harvest we have everyday is really shocking. We set out with an empty bag and return with 20 kg worth of goods. Then we set out to MBK via MRT. No, they call it BTS (bangkok train station) No eating one OK! Dont say i never warn you. That day i only bite a piece of mango, i got scolded by the security. Paiseh. I only gave it 1 shiok factor star because the goods there are very mediocre and expensive. Phaeng maak maak! Not good to buy things. Pratunam area is a better place to buy things cause they sell in wholesale format, meaning you buy minimum 3-4 pieces but at a very very low price. Later you'll know. So instead of shopping, my sis decided to do manicure/pedicure and my mum and i just went in together to wash hair. I only gave it 2 shiok factor stars cause they're quite lousy in washing hair. Hahaha..they just flush your head, making me feel like some animal. Very different from singapore where they slowly wash, lather, wash, lather, massage... No such thing there. Not worth the money although it's only 6 dollars. But then they gel my hair until very nice. Ha. After that, guess what. HaHAHA. This is the first time in my entire life i'm doing this. Quite an interesting experience. Dinner at my favourite beef noodles. This beef noodles is a major pulling factor for me. So delicious that i eat 4 bowls at one go and i have it every single day. Strolling outside the beef noodles stall brings another pleasant, mouth-watering experience. Gu chai gui and barbequed cuttlefish are a must-eat whenever i go there. Sometimes you might even find these... They are just crispy. Day 3 we went to Pratunam Area which is just outside Baiyoke Sky Hotel. Just one thing, these security gaurds really do have guts ok! Around that area, there's Indra Square and City complex. If you're a woman, it's a shopping heaven. Loads of things, that's why my sister bought a truckload of things again while i waited impatiently. You must understand, the number of shops to walk hor, is more than the 2.4km napfa test. My legs are super muscular now. Then i saw this shop which sells , T-shirts! I know they sell similar ones in Singapore but they sell for only 5 dollars for one! That's almost 1/3 the price in singapore, so i bought a few. And they also sell underwear in the bottle. Ooh, i had sharks' fin for lunch toooo. 20 bucks only leh. compared to those small small bowl ones in Singapore, it's considered very cheap. That's about it for day 3. The next day we went to Cheeenatown. Cheenatown sells wholesale stuff. That means that you cannot just buy ONE piece of an item. You must buy in BULK. For clothing about 3 piece a time. BUT ITS VERY BERY CHEAP. I must emphasize again. For example, when you want to buy a toy, you cannot buy 1. You must buy the entire of this, Only 5 dollars! So let's say i sell one of it for a dollar...hmm..then i would have earned 20 over dollars a box! Wah. not bad, i can quit studying and start my own business. You all dont try to stop me ok. And those ear rings you see in Singapore? You know they sell like 8 dollars a pair? They sell one for only 1 dollar! Cheap ka lao sai! Ok, this is getting too long.. >>>fast forward. Last day, back to MBK. This time, being the adventurous Singaporeans, we decided to take a TUK TUK. BUT DARN TUK TUK DRIVERS! He's a bastard. I mean most tuk tuk drivers are idiots. You know why? At first he agreed to bring us to MBK for 20 baht. So we though, Hmm.. not bad, very cheap what. But after moving a few steps, he stopped and told us to go visit jewellery shop. Actually we somehow expected this. So my sister immediately, NOOOOO! even before he could finish his sentence. And guess what?! HE TOLD US TO GET DOWN. ON THE SPOT OK. ASSWIPE. So dont say i never warn you, next time dont take tuk tuks. They're meant for locals only. And the reason why they always bring tourists there is because every time they bring a tourist there, they get free diesel pass. FRee petrol only what, must resort to such means meh? Cheapskate tuk tuks. Taxi's still a better choice. Actually BTS is better, cause there wont be jam. My sister brought my mum to paint nails while i sat there and watch. Those thais, really remarkable at doing nails. This is my mum, awaiting for her nails to be done. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .do do do. . . . .. 30 minutes later, I think my photography is really remarkable too. Who wants to employ me as photographer. Oh, in the mean time i have done a short video clip of the manicure process and the surrounding. I was too bo liao already, plus bonus thai soundtrack. I WANT TO WATCH !! There's another reccomendation i would like to make which is a confectionary at the end of MBK that sells very good bread. Immediately after taking this shot, i was told that photography is not allowed. But anyways, i took alr. At the end of the day, it's time for our legs to rest.. 8 dollars/hour. Not bad at all , although i was trying to control my laughter most of the time. IT CAN GET VERY TICKLISH ONE CAN. FINALLY FINALLY, let's return to home sweet home... That's all for today. And be sure to tune in to the next entry on BenJ's Discovery Travel and Living: Bangkok, Thailand II to find out what exactly inside these 5 hideous bags which caused the taxi driver to fall down... |
